An excellent flavoured flavoured pale plum coloured grape with a very high sugar content. This really is a gorgeously sweet grape to eat - almost like eating a mixture of honey and dessert wine

This is also a popular variety for the English wine industry (and rightly so) - and grown at our closest vineyard at Leeds Castle. It actually performs better here in the UK than it does in it native Germany. Alan Rowe , author of the acclaimed book 'Successful Grape Growing for Eating and Wine-Making' says of Schönburger, "if I was planting a new vineyard in Suffolk this would be my first choice".

  • Originally from Germany.
  • Parentage - Pinot Noir x (Chasselas x Muscat Hamburg).
  • Mid-Season fruit ripening.
  • Winter wood ripening is good - so can be grown both outdoors or under protection.
  • Can be trained using either the cane replacement method or spur pruning.
  • Self fertile.
  • Fruit contains seeds.
