Pollinator Friendly
xx

This plant mix is especially blended for nectar production as well as pretty flowers. We must all encourage our diminishing domestic bee and bumble bee populations as they are so essential for pollination Bees need plants like these, as do butterflies, moths and other vital pollinating insects including harmless Hover Bees (that are a natural predator to white fly and aphids). Plant a few of these and grow your own 'Nectar Bar'

Each compost block contains a mixture of plants (approximately 8 per block - and as Molly and Milly will be sowing these that is approximate) from the following - Borage, Candytuft, Clarkia, Godetia, Mixed Cornflowers, Nigella, Mignonette, Wallflowers, Goldenrod, Poppies, White Clover and Cosmos which will flower from approximately June until the first frosts.

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

  • Carefully tease the plugs apart into roughly individual plants, and plant out approximately 4" x 4" (10cm x 10cm) apart.
  • Make sure you water thoroughly after planting out and until established.
  • Annual (although some varieties will self seed).
  • Flower from approximately June to first frosts.
  • Growing heights vary between specie - between 8" (20 cm) and 3 feet (90 cm).
