Stunningly beautiful. Near black fully double flowers rise on tall stems. And after the flower the seed heads form which look similarly wonderful.

As a cut flower they will last at best 24 hours - so unless its a really special occasion this is a flower to enjoy in the garden! The seed pods will, of course, last indefinitely so can be used in dried flower arrangements.

Plant on mass for a truly stunning display.

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

  • Flower June - August.
  • Grow to around 2 - 3 feet (60 - 90 cm) tall.
  • Thrive in full sun.
  • Prefer well drained soils - and particularly good on poorer soils.
  • Hardy annual though can prove tender in very wet winters.
  • Provided they are grown away from other poppies they will set seed quite true to type.
