As the name suggests this is an Italian variety.
Produces 6" - 7" (16 - 17.5 cm) long tapered fruits that are up to 2" (5 cm) in diameter at the shoulder and thick walled and extremely sweet. Fruits can be picked green or left on the plant to mature to a rich red colour.
Ideal sliced for Summer salads, stir frying, preserving in oil or for cooked dishes.
Plants grow to around 3 feet (90 cm) tall with a spread of around 18" - 2 feet (45 - 60 cm).
Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
