Its scarey to think that we're over half way through the year now, and even scarier to think that in just a few months time the nights will have drawn in and the abundance of fresh produce we're all gorging on will be but a memory - just where has this year gone?
As far as the vegetable garden is concerned, August is a month of harvest and feasting on your efforts - and it can actually be a struggle to keep up with it all! Here on the nursery we are over-run with produce - cauliflowers, peas, beetroot, courgettes, beans, tomatoes, cucumbers - the list is endless as is the abundance - so now is a good time to preserve the excess for the Winter, whether that be by pickling, bottling or freezing.
But don't rest entirley on your laurels - there's still work to be done. This year has been a bumper one for onions, and with just a few more weeks until we clear for drying it will gives us some space to fill back up to extend the fresh harvest well into the Autumn - and this is exactly what you should be doing! There is still plenty that can be planted now so have a look through our vegetable plants section for some inspiration - if its 'Available Now' 'now' is a great time for planting.
Its also time to start planning any fruit plantings. With the ground still warm, now is a perfect time for planting pottted fruit which will root out and establsih before the onset of Winter. And for open ground grown fruit, remember we're only a few months off lifting - so to ensure you receive your order early help us by placing your order early.
Now is also the perfect time for filling those hungry gaps in your flower borders, and the warmer temperatures will ensure the plants establish well before the onset of Winter. So spend a little time looking through our Pretty Perennials section as well as our Fuchsias section; Fuchsias seem to have fallen from favour in recent years which is such a shame as they are such a versatile and worthwhile plant which we really can't recommend enough.
