Also known as Giant Jersey Kale. In time gone by this very tall variety of cabbage which is produced on the top of a single stem around 4ft or so tall was widely grown. It was cut, trimmed of leaves, dried and then made into walking sticks after being given a coat of varnish or stain; a knob for the hand hold and possibly a door stop as a ferrule completes your walking stick – grow your own walking sticks Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects if allowed to 'go over' and flower (so if you have room leave any plants in that have gone too far rather than pulling them out straight away).
