Supplied as a bare root tree pruned to approximately 4 - 5 feet (1.2 - 1.5 metres) tall including roots.

A very heavy and reliable cropping variety producing blue-black fruits with a sublime flavour. Sweet enough to eat fresh from the tree, the fruits are also perfect for pies, jams, bottling and wine making.

  • Season of use September.
  • First introduced 1820, Kent, UK.
  • Self Fertile - but pollination by another damson, gage or plum will maximise yield.
  • Grown on St Julien A rootstock for an ultimate (un-pruned) height of 12 - 15 feet (3.65 - 4.6 metres) but can easily be kept at a height of 6 - 8 feet (1.8 - 2.4 metres).

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

Supplied as a bare root tree pruned to approximately 4 - 5 feet (1.2 - 1.5 metres) tall including roots.

Just a quick note to say how easy, informative and in general, a pleasure, your website was to use this morning. Also, it is so refreshing to read your comments about "Organic" produce. I was amazed to read something so sensible, in all honesty. Working in the farming industry, food labelling is one of my bugbears and your comments about so called Organic food coming to the UK from abroad hit the nail on the head!
