Hedging PlantsYou would never have thought that hedges could be so useful ! Apart from the obvious purpose of a hedge to form a barrier or screen - and be more attractive than a fence, hedges can be so much more... Several of our hedges (Cherry Plum , Colourama and Trailblazer) produce fruits that can be used for jams, jellies and cordials - whilst our Emerald Fantastica and Mammoth Miscanthus have the handy side benefit of producing canes for use around the garden... and that's forgetting about the attracive flowers that some produce - or perhaps the lavendar that can be harvested from our lavendar hedging! Hedges are arguably a more attarctive proposition in the garden, not only aesthetically but also because the 'filter' the wind rather than being a solid barrier that causes wind turbulance and damage (look at any windbreak and you will note it is never solid). And of course a living hedge provides refuge and nesting for birds and other wildlife.
