Also called Dragons Wort. It is thought to be worthy of a connection to dragons, no-one is sure whether this relates to it fiery tang or from it's serpent like roots but it is believed to cure bites from venomous creatures, however now adays it is primarily used for cooking!

A few leaves shredded into scrambled egg raise this simple dish to a new level.

Leaves are rich in essential Iodine, Vitamins A and C as well as trace elements and beneficial mineral salts. In time gone by chewing the root of Tarragon was claimed to cure toothache.

  • Hardy.
  • Perennial.
  • Reaches approximately 3 feet (90 cm) tall.
  • Has greeny - yellow flowers.
  • Survives cold and hot climates (better than French Tarragon).
  • The flavour improves the longer it is planted, (but tends to be milder than French Tarragon).
  • Bitter-sweet, warm, peppery scent with an anise undertone.
  • Likes a sunny but sheltered position.
  • Prefers a rich, but light, dry soil but will tolerate poorer soils.
  • Culinary Uses.
  • Often used in fines herb.
  • Good for herb butter.
  • Used in Hollandaise, Tartar and Béarnaise Sauce.
  • Sometimes used as a rub for chicken prior to cooking.
  • Used by Persians on grilled meats.
  • Medicinal Uses.
  • Sweetens breathe.
  • Can stimulate appetite and digestion.
  • Was used to prevent scurvy.
  • Used to cure tooth ache.
