Herb SeedsHerewith we list a wonderful selection of herb seeds (please note we have now moved our ever increasing range of potted herb plants to a separate section - Herb Plants. There is nothing like a good supply of fresh herbs to take your cooking to that extra level. Most are easy to grow and all can be grown in pots or containers as well as in the garden, and most can be grown 'indoors' in good light so fill up your kitchen window sill for that instantly available supply! Growing in the garden will of course increase your yield giving you an abundance of supply that can be frozen, dried and hung in the kitchen or used to make flavoured oils. Herbs are a quick to grow to 'harvestable' size - our herb garden was constructed and planted late May 2006; we were cropping some herbs by the end of June and, as the picture to the right demonstrates, was well established by mid August of the same year. Everyone should make room for some herbs - whether its a few pots of their favourites or a more extensive herb garden
A Note On Our Herb Seed, Seed Counts & Our Seed PacketsAfter harvesting much of our herb seed is cleaned by hand using traditional methods and so occasionally you will find seed husk or similar in with your seeds; this is in no way detrimental. All our seed is measured and packeted by hand and to this end our seed counts are intended as a helpful guide only and should be accepted as approximate. In some seasons seed can vary marginally in size so you may find a few more or less. All seed is viable and harvest fresh at packing time. We pack our seed in small batches on a weekly basis in traditional paper seed packets which must be kept in a cool, dark and dry place prior to sowing as excessive moisture and temperature could adversely affect germination. Seed can be kept in the cold section of a domestic fridge, ie where milk, cheese etc is kept cool. For this purpose place the packet or packets in a polythene bag folded over and sealed with tape to prevent the ingress of moisture; on no account place in a deep freeze! Our seed packets do not have cultural guidance on the individual packets. Full sowing and growing instructions for all our seeds can be found here on our website; additionally all herb seed orders are accompanied by our 'Kitchen Garden' leaflet which has cultural guidance for all subjects (and is easier to read in the garden shed - or perhaps in bed!). All seed is covered by our Golden Harvest Guarantee - If our seed fails to germinate given the correct growing conditions we undertake to replace free of charge at our expense, provided the empty packet is returned to us within 12 months of purchase; to claim under our guarantee you will also need to supply your order receipt number if purchased by mail order or your till sales receipt if purchased from the nursery.
