Marjoram SeedOriganum vulgare

Sweet spicy flavoured grey green foliage. A very valuable herb as an infusion as it is a relief for stomach pains.
A member of the mint family.
- Half hardy annual.
- Reaches 2 feet (60 cm) tall.
- Likes a warm sunny position (it doesn't like the cold!)
- Like fertile, free draining soil.
- Suitable for container growing.
- Sow under glass in trays, or late Spring directly outside (please note germination can be slow).
- Plant seedlings out 6" (15 cm) apart (please note they can be slow to grow).
- Flowers July - September with small pale pink flowers.
- If you cut plants to 1" (2.5 cm) in Autumn they can be brought indoors.
- Culinary Uses.
- Good for use in stews, soup, on pizza, with pasta, eggs and cheese!
- Can be infused for tea.
- Can be chopped into salad.
- Good compliment for fish.
- Flowers are edible.
- Medicinal Uses.
- Can ease colds, coughs, whooping cough, asthma and headaches.
- Can help nervous disorders.
- Can ease rheumatic pains and tensions.
- Can help you sleep.
- Good for stimulating appetite.
- Homeopaths sometimes use to treat female sex disorders.
- Other Uses.
- As nosegays!
- Used in pot pourri and herb pillows.
- Can be used in bouquet garni.
- Can be used to scent furniture polish.
- Seed heads can be used as bird food!
Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
