Anise Seed

Pimpinella anisum

Leaves used in both cooking and salads. Seeds have a strong flavour of Aniseed. Good for the digestion as a tea. Makes an excellent refreshing cordial and summer drink. This is what gives Pernod its distinct flavour. We also learnt in January 2006 that the vaccine prepared for Avian Bird Flu H5N1 contains Anise.

How To Grow Anise

Whilst you can sow directly in shallow drills in the ground when soil temperature is around 55°f - 60°f (15°C) better results are achieved by sowing directly in pots or seed trays in good seed compost.
Keep out of strong sun light until they have germinated and produced true leaves.
Plant out or pot on when the seedlings are large enough to handle.
