Herb Of Jupiter Plant

Sempervivum sp.

A famous herbalist made reference to this plant as the herb of Jupiter. Botanically it is known as Sempervivum, and often referred to as the 'House Leek'.

One would often see a clump of these growing on the roof of old houses and cottages as they need little in the way of soil and nutrition, and can find a hole in a cranny of a wall or possibly a tile. Legend has it that to plant in such positions will prevent the house from catching fire or being struck by lightning!

However, it has a more practical use insomuch that it is one of natures healing plants. A broken leaf, with the 'gooey' sap that it exudes, will soon stop a bleeding wound. Likewise those that suffer from corns, a split leaf of this plant placed over the corn and held there with a plaster for several days will soften the corn and make it easy to remove. The broken leaf that exudes this gel/sap is likewise a relief for burns and sores. Yet another of natures miracle plants.
