Bilo Technica (700 Gallons)

Bilo Technica (700 Gallons)

Exclusive To Victoriana Nursery Gardens

Around twenty years ago an accidental discovery was made when a bale of barley straw fell into a pond thick with algae. About 9 months later the water mysteriously cleared and remained clear for about a year.

Why the delay? Barley straw, from our past research can release for want of a better expression an enzyme (rather like enzymes in washing powder for whiter whites) that consume and inhibit algae spore development without any harmful side effect. We looked at this and saw the potential to assist garden pond keepers but in a very much shortened timescale. We pioneered the successful formula. The consequence has been, following our extensive national press publicity, to be copied by others - the result being the sale of barley straw pads, barley pellets, barley extract etc and other products including dried lavender! Over our sales counter and by telephone numerous complaints have been raised with us - "we've tried that and it doesn't work" - correct. But if you have patience and the correct 'straw count' level in eight to nine months it may work for you! But do you want to wait 8-9 months?

We make no secret of the fact we use barley straw as the essential base material. This is conditioned barley straw of organic origin - unlike cheap and useless and often positively harmful non organic barley straw from fields treated with herbicides (weed killers) that can lock up in the straw and prevent enzyme release but release traces of the herbicide or weedkiller into your pond that can prove injurious to fish and other plant life. Just as a baker requires strong flour for bread making no matter how much the bread is kneaded it will not rise without the correct bakers yeast. The Bilo Technica method follows a similar principal and we have formulated the 'trigger ingredient' to release the algae inhibiting enzyme. Furthermore we also incorporate a pH balancing agent to prevent your pond water becoming too alkaline. Folk have to top up their ponds with water from the mains and particularly the Thames Valley and the Southern part of the Country the water is 'hard' - hence lime scale forming in your kettle!

Our system really does work and we have testimonials to endorse it. The Bilo-Technica system is all self contained in a specially made sealed porous bag that is simply placed into the pond. Within 3 to 4 weeks the 'Pea Soup Knitted Fog' effect can just simply disappear! This system lasts 9-12 months or more.

In producing Bilo Technica it is essential to have 'conditioned' organic barley straw and the enzyme release agent - you may pay a little more but we guarantee your success.

Supplied as a self contained 'pillow'.

Pond Water Volume Calculator
It is advisable that you calculate the gallonage of your pond before ordering. To arrive at the capacity for a rectangular or square pond you multiply the length in feet by the width in feet and the average depth in feet by 6.25. To arrive at the average depth, say your pond is 4 feet deep at one end and 2 feet at the other, for the purpose of the calculation, the average is arrived at by adding the two figures together and dividing by two e.g 2+4=6, divided by 2=average depth 3. To calculate the gallonage of a round pond, multiply the average depth in feet by the radius squared x 19.5. For `metric people' a gallon of water = 4.55 litres.

Remember, if you had the correct balance of plant life in the pond and not an excess of fish you would not need the Bilo Technica system at all! People who feed their fish regularly only aggravate the nuisance of green water and blanket weed because most fish foods are about only 20% protein with the remainder being 'filler biscuit material'. This passes as waste through the fish excreta system to the bottom of the pond where nitrifying bacteria converts this waste into nitrite (fertiliser in other words) to encourage the growth of 'green water' and or blanket weed! A side effect of Bilo Technica is to promote microscopic live fish food as of course naturally occurs in well planted ponds, river or lakes - so there will be no need to feed your fish. Fish in the wild are never fed!

Bilo-Technica is not suitable for keeping duck ponds clear.
