Let your plants grow unhindered and your fish swim free - contrary to popular belief Blanket Weed can be very beneficial to pond life and should not be entirely discouraged - ideally, if it is seen to cling to the edge of your pool, just below the water level, it provides an ideal spawning medium for fish to lay their eggs and for fry (the name used for baby fish) to forage and hide from their predator parents! Only when it grows so thick as to choke the pond and be impossible to remove by 'winding onto a stick' like spaghetti need you resort to the natural old fashioned remedy of Blanket Weed Eliminator (BWE)

Blanket Weed, so named as it grows like green cotton wool, occurs in three common forms - Rhizoclonium, Spirogyra and Cladophora. BWE used in accordance with the instructions will eliminate it!! BWE is compounded from two naturally occurring mineral salts - Magnesium and Copper - and actually provides a tonic for fish and does not harm other pond life. It is very important to calculate the correct volume of water in your pond and treat accordingly. Each packet we supply will treat up to 1000 gallons. It does not 'go off' with keeping. Blanket Weed usually only occurs in Summer and after treatment will decompose at the bottom of the pond to release beneficial nutrients to other pond plants.

BWE or Blanket Weed Eliminator can be used in conjunction with Bilo Technica. Again, within a 10% error margin knowing the volume of water in your pond is critical to failure or success.

Within ten days the blanket weed will have disappeared if you calculated the water volume correctly in the first place.

It is advisable that you calculate the gallonage of your pond before ordering. To arrive at the capacity for a rectangular or square pond you multiply the length in feet by the width in feet and the average depth in feet by 6.25. To arrive at the average depth, say your pond is 4 feet deep at one end and 2 feet at the other, for the purpose of the calculation, the average is arrived at by adding the two figures together and dividing by two e.g 2+4=6, divided by 2=average depth 3. To calculate the gallonage of a round pond, multiply the average depth in feet by the radius squared x 19.5. For `metric people' a gallon of water = 4.55 litres.
