So called because some folk have found these to have the property of deterring moles where planted.

  • Commonly known as Caper Spurge.
  • A handsome growing biennial which can self seed.
  • It is said the roots exude a secretion making worms unpleasant to taste (have to say I've never eaten a worm) - moles find the worms unpalatable so move on elsewhere!
  • A handsome plant.
  • Plant at 4 feet (1.2 metres) spacings for best effect.
  • All parts of the plant, including the seeds and roots are poisonous. Handling may may cause skin irritation as the plant produces latex.
  • While poisonous to humans and most livestock, goats sometimes eat it and are immune to the toxin. However, the toxin can be passed through the goat's milk.

Supplied as a plant grown in a 7cm pot.

Hi Victoiana Nursery, Further to my phonecall, I want to put in writing my gratitude to you for the wonderful services you gave me over the past few weeks. I came to you in desperation because I had planned to make a potager with plenty of fruit trees and vegatables and herbs and roses all growing together on a small back garden. Unfortuately I had not realised that this was heavy clay. It was not until I started planting the roses and discovered no water drained away that I panicked and realised that I had to rethink my ideas. What's more what could I do with the fruit trees that were coming from other nurseries? To add to my chagrin, a gardener whose fruit trees had inspired me mentioned pollinators! These were essential he said. That was when I found you. I phoned up several times and you always talked me through the problem, not once but several times, even on a busy day with such patience and understanding. I received 5 more trees from you and they arrived quickly and in excellent condition, having been carefully packed. How I wished I had found you earlier. The fruit trees I had from another nursery had come damaged as they were packed in long cardboard boxes with blue nylon tape around the top and bottom which made handy grab handles except it sliced throuhg the boxes and guess what damaged the plants (I was compensted for that I may add in fairness). In the meantime, I have had to put my plants in enormous pots and although I don't have the pretty potager I wanted, your fruit trees may be coming into bloom soon. I shall certainly be recommending you to others. Thank you so much. If I manage to transform my 'moonscape' (due to the drainage work I have had to undertake) I shall certainly use you again.
