These were first grown by the late Eric Shirley in the 1940's at his home and allotment in Isleworth, Middlesex. They are renowned for both their perfume and exhibition quality blooms - see (and smell) our trials here on the nursery every Summer.

Clearly these hold a great deal of nostalgia for us!

Our blend is from 40 distinct named varieties in a grand mixture including varieties such as Air Warden, Andrea Robertson, Blackcurrant Mousse, Blue Danube, Bristol, Brook Hall, Charlie's Angel, Evening Glow, Firebrand, Flagship, Kelvedon Beauty, Mrs R Bolton, Nanette Newman, Noel Sutton, Pluto, Red Ace, Red Arrow, R.A.F., Rosy Frills, Rouge Parfum, Shirley Pink, Southbourne, Swan Lake, White Frills, Winston Churchill

How To Grow Spencer Sweet Peas

Flower Summer.
Grow to approximately 8ft tall.
Thrive in full sun and a rich soil.
Plant 6"-9" apart.

Long stemmed excellent show quality blooms can be produced from late April under cold glass or a polytunnel.

A row of Sweet Peas in the vegetable garden helps pollination of peas and beans - a practice Grandad Shirley always applied.
