BoysenberryRubus ursinus x idaeusThe exact parentage of this wonderful fruit is open to debate; it is either a cross between a blackberry, raspberry and loganberry or a cross between a loganberry and a dewberry. Legend has it that it is the latter and was first discovered and propagated by Rudolph Boysen in America - we think that the fruit is to dark for this and that ‘blackberries were involved'! Putting all this to one side this is a truly wonderful fruit producing consistently sweet reddish-black berries (reminiscent of an old fashioned bramble) that ripen from late June onwards Form our experience this is the most adaptable of the hybridberries for climate and soil proving to be both drought resistant and hardy. Self Fertile Supplied as a pot grown plant approximately 12" tall. Back to Soft, Bush and Cane Fruits Back to A World Outside The Classroom
