This new variety really sets the standard for blackcurrants, and makes it the first real dessert variety (ie can be eaten raw without needing sugar). Usually ripening in the first couple of weeks of July (so it's early too), the fruits are large and firm and have a delicate flavour. But what really stands this variety apart is its sweetness (with a Brix value of up to 15%); you genuinely do not need sugar if eating these raw. The plant itself has a reasonably vigorous habit and, without training, will produce an open slightly spreading bush; it is also perfect for growing on wires or as a cordon. With the added benefit of its excellent resistance to powdery mildew we really cannot recommend this variety enough Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
