Our Feedback
Hi I just wanted to say that this is an excellent site. I ordered seeds (veggies) and organic vegetable growing guide book and all I can say is that the service has been absolutely fantastic. Most seeds are sown and already starting to sprout. The Kitchen Garden leaflet is a fantastic idea. I have copied this and have one in the greenhouse and a spare in the house. I will definately be ordering from you again. Thanks again for everything

Description

These lovely little ground cover plants are a real joy to have in the garden. Growing to a maximum of around 6" (15 cm) tall they have a compact but spreading habit. Is commonly grown in Northern areas of the World such as Russia and Norway.

Will tolerate temperatures down to -40C but don't like to grow in the hot sunshine, prefer the shade of tree canopies (or similar), likes a damp poor soil.

In May / June time they are covered with pretty pinky-white bell flowers which develop into bright red berries that are about the size of a pea. The berries usually ripen in two flushes - late July and late September - and are perfect for Cranberry jelly, sauces, preserves and, of course, drinks.

Also known as lingonberries, brawlins, hurtleberry, red whortleberry, whinberry, munshock, lingberry, hurst, flowering box, foxberry, partridgeberry and cowberry.

  • Evergreen.
  • Very hardy.
  • Harvest late July and late Septmber.
  • Suitable for both open ground or container growing.
  • Prefers a shady position (particularly in hot Summers).
  • Prefers moist ground.
  • For open ground planting plant 12" x 12" (30 x 30 cm) apart.
