A historic variety of tomato! Pre-dating the Russian Revolution of 1917 this heirloom variety originates from the Isle of Krim, located in the Black Sea.

Heavy cropping, this variety deserves the term 'beefsteak' as the fruits are both large with a very 'meaty' with juicy firm, delicious flesh; whilst some suggest this is an excellent variety for stuffing, we have to disagree as that would mean scooping out some of that gorgeous flesh. That said, this is a lovely variety when cooked - and simply grilled slices are just divine.

Starting off green, the fruits mature to a brown-red colour with a darker top. Fruits average 4" (10 cm) in diameter but can be much larger - in fact as the trusses develop additional support with canes or string may be needed! One small downside of this variety is it is hard to grow a visually 'perfect' fruit as these often crack at the top or the base - but whatever you do don't let that put you off, this is a fantastic variety.

  • This is an indeterminate variety and best grown as a cordon (vine).
  • For best yields stop at 5th truss if growing under protection (3rd outside).
  • Whilst the best crops will be grown under protection, this variety can also be grown outside.

Supplied as compost block grown plants.
