This is probably the most popular Chilli Pepper grown in Mexico with an average area of 37,000 acres grown each year!

As immature green fruits they are known in the US and parts of Mexico as 'Poblano' (but technically that is a different variety). Once they mature to red or are dried they are known as 'Ancho' - and if they mature to a dark brown colour they are known as 'Mulato'. 'Ancho' means "wide" in Mexican and relates to the broad, flat heart-shaped pods in the dried form. This is the chilli traditionally used for making mole and chilli rellenos.

Fruits are heart shaped and vary from 2" - 6" (5 - 15 cm) in length and 2" - 3" (5 - 7.5 cm) wide. The plant has a very open habit, growing to approximately 3 - 4 feet (90 - 120 cm) tall with a spread of 2 - 3 feet (60 - 90 cm).

  • Origin: Mexico.
  • Heat: Mild.

Mild Chilli: 1000 - 5000 SHU's

Supplied as a packet of approximately 20 seeds.
