We thoroughly recommend this hard to find vegetable that is easily grown. You can eat the tubers either raw in salads, lightly fried in butter or stir-fried in Chinese style dishes where they will make an excellent substitute to water chestnuts. If you wish you can also steam them.

The small tubers have a delicious and nutty flavour and satisfying crunch.

Also known as Crosnes, these are popular in France - yet 'over here' usually only ever seen in the most expensive delicatessens and restaurants.

Whilst related to the mint family, these have a similar growing habit to Jerusalem Artichokes - in that once you have established a bed of these you will be able harvest annually and they will self perpetuate.

  • Plant out mid October - April.
  • Plant 3" (7.5 cm) deep, 10" (25 cm) apart in rows 18" (45 cm) apart.
  • Plant the tubers horizontally.
  • Harvest annually from late October onwards.
  • Top Tips
  • Lightly mulch your bed annually in early March to encourage moisture retention and suppress weeds.
  • Ensure plants are watered well in dry spells.
  • Always leave one or two tubers in the ground to grow back in the same area next year.

Supplied as freshly dug and washed tubers.

Very impressed with the cherry trees recieved in perfect condition.planted as per instructions.I would like advice, as now I have got them I am told I will never have cherries as the birds always get there first. As the trees max height is 8ft is there some way I can protect them and when is it the beast time to offer this protection. I would be grateful for your advice. Webmasters Reply: Here on the nursery we have found hanging old cd's in the tree the most effective method of control; these must be in place from approximately mid March until after the fruit has been harvested.
