Courgette Seed 'Jemmer'

A deliciously sweet yellow variety of Courgette.

With a thin skin and soft flesh this is a perfect variety for running a vegetable peeler down to shave into thin strips that can then be eaten raw in salads - or slice down into tagliatelle sized strips that take just a moment or two to steam to make a wonderful pasta alternative.

Very reliable and a prolific cropper (even more so than most courgettes) - we cannot recommend this variety enough

Can happily be grown outside, but will really thrive if grown under a cloche, in a greenhouse or a polytunnel.

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

How To Sow & Grow Courgettes

Sow under protection in pots March to April. Place seeds on end, blunted end pointing downwards in compost - simply push into compost out of sight. Water thoroughly and germinate at a temperature of 75°f.
When seed leaves are developed reduce temperature to around 65°-70°f.
Plant out April to June in the greenhouse border or large tubs, or later if growing outside.
Harvest as required and to encourage more fruits - keeping up with them is usually the problem (don't forget Courgettes freeze well).

Top Tips
Protect newly sown seeds from mice. Mice are notorious in 'sniffing out' seed of this nature
Keep the soil / compost moist - watering around the plant, not the foliage.
If the weather is cold fertilise the female flowers (they have a tiny 'fruit' behind them) with a male flower by folding back the petals and gently pushing into the female flower.
Handle fruits carefully as they bruise easily.
