Spinach Seed - Little Grandad's Original

Because of the disappointments we have had in trials of different varieties of conventional spinach we have decided to go back to Granddad Shirley's original Leaf Beet Spinach, or Perpetual Spinach; this was first grown by Granddad Shirley in 1937!

The dark green leaves have small midribs and a rich flavour making it perfect for steaming, stir frying or making into our favourite - Saag Paneer. Should you wish you can of course use this as a cut and come again baby leaf crop.

Easier to grow, less likely to bolt and hardier than other Spinach we really cannot recommend this enough! Sow a row of this and harvest for nearly a year!

• Sow March to October in 1" (2.5 cm) deep drills 18" (45 cm) apart.
• These are what are known as a cluster seed in that each 'cluster' contains sever seeds so sow approximately 1" (2.5 cm) apart.
• Once large enough to handle thin to 4" - 6" (10 - 15 cm) apart.

• Top Tips
• Water regularly in warm dry spells.
• Pick frequently to ensure the leaves stay young and succulent. Better to cut more than you need and compost the excess rather than allow the leaves to become large and tough.
• Should it run to seed (which is quite rare) cut off seed heads and cut back to encourage fresh growth.
