Beetroot Seed 'Boltardy'

Beetroot Seed 'Boltardy'

Beta vulgaris subsp. vulgaris 'Boltardy'

What a useful and nutritious vegetable. Excellent for salads or steam and serve alone or with a white sauce (will turn pink) as an alternative vegetable. You can also use the mature leaves just like Spinach or Chard. As the name suggests, bolt- resistant. The deep red flesh has a smooth skin. Roots will store all Winter without loss of flavour if plunged in course sand or well composted bark.

Supplied as a packet of approximately 100 seeds.

How To Grow Beetroot 'Boltardy'

Sow mid April to late July.
Sow 2 seeds 4" apart in rows 12" apart. Sow in 1" deep drills. When the seedlings are 1" high thin out to one plant per station or allow to grow to table tennis ball size to eat as baby beat leaving one to grow larger. You can do this with Swedes and Turnips too.
We have also sown these, as we have carrots, in cells and transplanted very successfully
