Carrot - All Year Round Seed Blend

Carrot - All Year Round Seed Blend

Daucus carota

One of our most important food chain vegetables! These can be sown in the open under cloches, cold frame or direct into the garden in the ordinary way in drills. You 'pull' them as you use them and leave the others to grow on. Can stay in the soil all winter. Lift them like parsnips. Lovely flavour too!

Supplied as a packet of approximately 2000 seeds.

How To Grow Carrots

Sow March (under protection) or April to June outside in the open.
Sow thinly in rows 12" apart. Sow in ½" deep drills.
Thin out to 2"-3" apart when large enough to handle.
Also sow October to November under protection for young Easter carrots.

A useful tip to deter carrot fly is when you thin or hoe your carrots water the rows with our BioFriend Plant-Defence - this will keep the fly away! And always remember to take the thinnings away - thinnings left on the ground attract carrot fly. As an alternative, and recommended by Bob Flowerdew, always keep plants covered with polyfleece.
