A variety probably best known (or should that be notorious) for its extensive growing and use in Germany for the production of Liebfraumilch; if Liebfraumilch is not a wine for you, don't let that put you off In the UK it is widely grown in UK commercial vineyards, including the Leeds Castle Vineyard where it results in a most agreeable wine.

The fruits are a golden-green colour and very sweet and juicy (some describe them as filled with "oceans of sugar water") - making them a very pleasant eating grape as well as for juicing and wine.

  • Originally from Germany.
  • Mid-Season fruit ripening.
  • Winter wood ripening is fair - so can be grown both outdoors or under protection (greenhouse, polytunnel or conservatory).
  • Can be trained using either the cane replacement method or spur pruning.
  • Self fertile.
  • Fruit contains seeds.

Supplied as a pot grown plant approximately 3 feet (90 cm) tall including pot.

I have just tried growing your Victorian colossal pea, with fantastic results. We have a small garden and my wife found these thinking we would get more for the same space as the 'normal' peas. Problem is they are so heavily laden with pods they are tearing from the support frame and I have had to tie them up with soft string. A problem that is very welcome. I have just sown more in the greenhouse to plant out for a later crop. I have also tried your coloured carrots but too soon to try, but I will be ordering more seeds and greater variety in the future. Best wishes
