Visiting Victoriana Nursery Gardens
Opening Times Unlike many companies selling over the internet we welcome visitors to our Nursery and Plant Centre; if you are ever in the South East of England why not come and find us? At our nursery we stock a far wider range of plants than we offer by mail order as we grow many subjects (both ornamental and edible) in too smaller quantity to list online. And of course you will find helpful friendly advice from people who have a genuine interest in what they grow and sell. You will not however find large displays of ornaments, pots, peat and the like - we are a true production nursery - not a soul-less garden centre! As you walk around the outside beds and the large growing and display house you will see our staff sowing seeds, taking cuttings, potting up and caring for the plants. We produce and grow the old fashioned way with care and dedication. You will see our display vegetable garden, the herb garden, the newly planted soft fruit garden and our new flower and cutting gardend. In the main display and growing house you will see over 500 fuchsias - to see them at their glory do visit from mid May onwards although we are sure that you will find something interesting whatever time of year you visit. We are situated on the top of the North Downs adjacent to 'King's Wood', 'Well Wood' and 'Ashes Wood' - ancient woodlands that in late April and early May are carpeted by bluebells. The Nursery itself is screened by a belt of trees and shrubs helping it to be a haven for wildlife. In Spring our gateway is a riot of colour with daffodils and tulips and during the Summer and Autumn you will be greeted by fuchsias in full flower. As you make your way around the nursery you may well see many of the birds that live permanently on the nursery or some that visit during the Summer months; We have many varieties of Finches, Tits including the Long Tailed Tit as well as Blackbirds, Thrushes, Sparrows, Jays, Starlings and both the Green and Spotted Woodpecker. We also have visits by Pheasants and Partridge from the nearby Eastwell Estate (especially during the shooting season when they become our resident refugees!). During warm sunny days you might see Green Lizards, Newts and Sloe Worms basking in the sun. Also during the Summer months we have many butterflies and moths as well as Dragon Flies darting about across the pond and aquatic tanks. It would be wrong for us to say we are a ‘day out’ destination – an hour would probably be more than sufficient time for most visitors. We are however very well located for those who wish to combine their visit with other local attractions. Literally just down the road are the forest walks and ideal spots for picnics in King's Wood; King's Wood is also now home to the Stour Valley Arts Project. Leeds Castle is just twenty minutes distant from us, as is the historic city of Canterbury. The Port Of Dover and the Channel Tunnel Terminal are approximately forty minutes distant so you could even combine your visit with a trip to France! Opening TimesMonday - Friday 9.30am - 4.00pm Saturdays and Bank Holidays 10.30am - 3.00pm. (we may close early if weather is grotty and miserable, or we 'haven't seen anyone all day' - so if you are journeying from afar and think you will be with us later in the day please call ahead and we will stay open). Sundays we are closed as we like to spend this day with our children - and try and get some of our own garden done! We will be closed to callers for Christmas from 17 December 2010 - 4 January 2011 Location Map & Directions
