Our Feedback
I would like to thank the nursery and staff for the order I received this morning Wednesday 17th July . After placing my order on Sunday I began to have doubts ,this was due to a bad experience with a large producer of plug size bedding plants earlier this year . All the doubts have proved unfounded, not only did the order arrive on the day but it came early enough for me to pot the plants before going off to work .The size and quality of the plants are first class and are real value for money . Once we have finished clearing one of the overgrown flower beds our new plants will hopefully produce a good display for several years . Thank you

Also known as lucerne, this quick seed sprouting crop is delicious and shouldn't be missed, taste a bit like peas and great in a salad or stir fry with a clover type leaf.

Crop when 1 - 2" (2.5 - 5 cm) tall and are commonly found in South Indian cooking, but you can allow it to grow larger and is often used to make hay or silage; if allowed to flower it produces clusters of small purple flowers. They reach about 3 feet 3" (1 metre) tall and can live for up to eight years, becoming deep rooted.

For sprouting you need to cover the seeds with cool water and rinse them twice daily (you may find this easier in a jam jar with a piece of cloth or cheesecloth over the top, sealed with an elastic band, do not cling film as they need ventilation, do not lay the seeds thick on top of each other as they will rot). Keep the seeds out of direct sunlight but at room temperature.

Crop to harvest usually takes approximately 4 - 6 days when you can see the lush green leaves! To entend their life when they are ready keep them in your fridge.

Thought to have originated in South-Central Asia then introduced into Greece in around 490BC. In ancient India they used Alfafa seeds and sprouts to improve blood cell production and the leaves and stems because of their good source of minerals and protein. During the 16th Century they were feed to working horses instead of grass as they were said to give the horses more energy.

  • Likes good levels of potassium and phosphorus to grow well.
  • High in protein.
  • Sow to crop in 4-6 days.
