Our Feedback
Hello Victoriana Team, I received my order in first class condition and the lavender is nicely planted now. Steve (My husband) is going to use the mustard on the allotment over the weekend. I just had to let you know that we are as pleased as punch with your company and with the goods that we have ordered. It is so nice to congratulate a company that works so hard to please everyone. Many thanks again for the splendid service - Keep up the good work.

Description

The Gala apple is medium-sized fruit with a mild and sweet flavour and a crisp, crunchy texture; it has an orange/yellow/red striped skin, and white to cream flesh.

Whilst these apples store well the flavour decreases with age and are best eaten straight from the tree in October.

The blosson is a pretty white with a pink tinge.

Gala was produced by J H Kidd in approximately 1960 in New Zealand and named in 1965.

  • Likes a sunny position.
  • Mid-late season variety.
  • Season of use: October to January.
  • Partially self-fertile - but pollination by another apple will maximise yield.
  • Parentage: Golden Delicious x Kidd's Orange Red.
  • Origin: New Zealand, named in 1965.
  • Grown on MM106 rootstock for an ultimate (unpruned) height of 12-15ft (3.65-4.6m) but can easily be kept at a height of 6-8ft (1.8-2.4m).

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

Recommended by the RHS to assist in encouraging bats into the garden as the flowers are likely to attract moths and other night-flying insects which bats love to eat!
