Description

The distinctive purple-black fruits of this variety have an excellent texture, and don't seem to absorb oil as easily as other varieties when they're cooked. Popular for Mediterranean and Asian cooking these are gorgeous simply sliced, dipped in egg and then breadcrumbs before shallow frying.

Eggplants, as they are commonly known, will produce the heaviest crop if grown under protection - but a sunny spot outside, sheltered from cold winds, will also produce a very worthwhile crop.

  • Sow under protection two seeds per small pot March-April.
  • Germinate at a temperature of 21-27°C (70-80°F).
  • Transplant and grow on in larger pots when big enough to handle.
  • For greenhouse or polytunnel growing plant out into larger pots, growbags or the ground when more established and provide a sturdy support.
  • For outdoor growing transplant into a sunny sheltered spot after the risk of frost has passed. Plant out 36" (90 cm) apart in rows 36" (90 cm) apart and provide a sturdy support.
