Our Feedback
Hi Serena Just to let you know that my plants have arrived and to thank you for taking such care with them - they were so well packed and are in such good condition. I am very impressed because I have bought plants online in the past and they were nowhere near as well packed - or as well grown! Kind regards

Autumn - Well Perhaps, Maybe...

So weather wise October hasn't been the best of months - wet sums it up in one word! But with the change in the month the weather also seems to have changed to a more settled brighter and drier.

But what we really want is a cold snap to bring Autumn proper in with a jolt and persuade the leaves to drop - even our Mulberry is in full leaf!

With the weather having been so mild this Autumn things are running just a little bit late! In previous years we have usually lifted most of our fruit and hedging, but this year we haven't started just yet. Unlike many suppliers, we prefer to see the leaves at least fade to yellow before lifting - working with nature rather than pushing it! But the leaves are just on the turn now, and so over the next few weeks everything will be out of the ground and available.

So now is the time to plan your Autumn and Winter plantings. The sooner your plants are ordered the sooner you will have them and be able to get them in; another job done before Winter really kicks in!

For many (including a magazine or two), Autumn is thought of as the 'end of the gardening season' but in reality it isn't - its just a time when we change what we are eating fresh from the garden. Surely your first Parsnip or Jerusalem Artichoke from the garden is just as exciting as the first Asparagus or Sweetcorn? Of course, if the supermarkets had it all their way that joy would have long gone - with their policies of all year round availability of everything!

So, in the gardening calendar things may slow down a little bit just now - but its also time to plan for the new year ahead. Without wishing the year away, it wont be too long until Christmas Day afternoon - the traditional time for sowing onions. So relax a little, but not too much!

Be sure to follow all our antics at the nursery on Twitter, Facebook or Google+ for daily updates and general banter posted with a grin.
