Description

For all those who think Mexican food is all about hot chillies, think again! This extremely mild Chilli Pepper is in fact the variety most widely used in Mexico and favourite for the 'national dishes' of Mole and Chilli Rellenos.

Starting off deep green in colour the fruits look very similar to a Sweet Pepper and have very little heat. As they mature they colour up first to red and then on to an almost brown colour - and by this time a little heat has built into the sweet flavour.

Often mistakingly known as the Poblano Chilli - whereas Poblano should only be the name attributed to Ancho Chillies grown in Puebla, Mexico.

These also dry well and can be ground to make a warming paprika.

Fruits are heart shaped and vary from 2"-6" (5-15 cm) in length and 2"-3" (5 - 7.5 cm) wide. The plant has a very open habit, growing to approximately 3-4 feet (90-120 cm) tall with a spread of 2-3 feet (60-90 cm).

  • Origin: Mexico.
  • Heat: Mild - approximately 1000-1500 SHUs
