Our Feedback
Hello, i visited your nursery earlier today, i have to tell you: i was seriously impressed, both with the friendly knowledgeable helpful Lady who was there serving me, and with the carload of plants i bought. I love my new cherry and apricot trees, my new blackberry bush and the amazing more than a tray load of olde worlde herbs i bought. I might not be able to visit often due to the 145 mile distance but i will certainly be back sometime. Thank You very Much. :)

Description

Being one of the lower growing varieties of Evening Primrose, these are particularly well suited for use as a ground cover - but similarly perfect of the herbaceous border or alpine garden alike.

Form June to September they repeatedly throw masses of bright yellow poppy-like flowers that can be up to 5" (13 cm) in diameter. As the name suggests, the flowers open later in the day (and are pollinated by moths and other nocturnal insects). Later the flowers are followed by unusual winged seed pods.

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

  • Biennial, will self seed.
  • Flower June to September.
  • Grows to approximately 12" (30 cm) tall.
  • Thrive in full sun.
  • Prefers well drained soil.
  • Drought tolerant.
  • Plant approximately 12" (30 cm) apart.
  • Culinary Uses
  • Leaves and flowers can be added to salad.
  • Roots can be used in their second year as a vegetable (like parsnip) in soups and stews.
  • Oil from their seeds is used to regulate hormones and can help PMS.
  • Can be used to treat inflammation conditions like arthritis.
  • Used to treat eczema and other dry skin complaints.
  • Can be used as a sedative or to treat diarrhoea.
  • Roots can be used to treat stubborn coughs.
  • Can lower cholsterol and blood pressure.
