Description

Everyone should grow this! From sowing to eating in less than a week! This invaluable side salad or garnish is easily and quickly grown and is the perfect indoor crop.

This is true salad cress, not Rape which is often sold as Cress - so if you have been put off by the flavours of shop-bought cress do give this a go as you may be really surprised by its particularly good flavour.

  • Thinly sow at regular intervals on folded tissues or similar placed in a waterproof container or dish - no soil or covering is necessary.
  • Place in a warm dark place - a kitchen cupboard is ideal (an airing cupboard will be too warm).
  • After four days remove.
  • The cress will have germinated and be about 2" (5 cm) tall. It will appear blanched (white) due to lack of light.
  • Place in a well-lit window position (add only a little water if tissue is drying out), turn container round the next day - your cress will now have 'greened up'.
  • Cut with scissors and use.
  • Children Like To Grow This!
  • Wash out an empty hard boiled egg shell and get your child to draw on a face.
  • Fill with damp cotton wool and sow seeds on the surface.
  • Treat as above and in a few days you will have a 'Cress Head'.
  • Alternatively, cut up egg boxes and join the cells of the egg box together to make 'Cress Caterpillars'.
