A spicy peppery/raspberry/strawberry flavoured grape that is blue/black in colour.

The most widely grown red wine grape in the world, usually producing wine with a high alcohol and sugar content. Regularly used to make Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-pape or Priorat but can be used for making rose, white as well as red wines.

Grenache is highly recommended for home-made wine as it produces good results fairly easily, it can also be used on it's own or blended with other varieties. It has a high sugar content when left to fully ripen. The buds appear earlier in the season and fully ripens late. Grenache prefers a hot, dry location (often found in Spain) however it is also quite good at withstanding poor soils and windy locations.

Also known as Garnacha Tito or Garnacha Tina, thought to have originated in Spain but no-one is really sure.

  • Wine grape.
  • Origin of Spain.
  • Late season ripening.
  • Likes a dry/sunny and warm location.
  • Recommended for protected growing only (or outside if in South England in a sunny position).
  • Self fertile.
  • Fruits contain seeds.
