The classic noble grape of Burgundy and Champagne - responsible for some of the finest wines in the world. In warmer climates this makes truly outstanding red wines whilst in cooler climates it is best for making white wines (as reds from cooler climate are often thin and acidic - disappointing).

Excellent for making sparkling white wines, few realise it is the main constituent (and in some case the only) grape used in Champagne. It is also a surprisingly pleasant eating grape too.

  • Originally from France.
  • Mid-Season fruit ripening.
  • Winter wood ripening is good - so can be grown both outdoors or under protection (greenhouse, polytunnel or conservatory).
  • Can be trained using either the cane replacement method or spur pruning.
  • Self fertile.
  • Fruit contains seeds.
