A delightful black grape primarily grown for making wine. Generally speaking the flavour is of blackberries and dark chocolate, but also peppery or liquorice flavours may come through (however this does change depending on the environment in which it grows). Syrah has high tannins and acidity.

Also known as Shiraz (particularly in Australia). This variety is thought to be a descendant of Dureza and Mondeuse blanche vines and originates from the Northern Rhône region of France but is now grown in many countries. Syrah is a variety that will change flavour depending on it's growing conditions, usually the wine made from the grapes grown in a hotter climate (such as Australia) are more full bodied, however the grapes usually produce wine with good aging ability.

  • Loves a sunny, warm location.
  • Free draining soil.
  • Protected growing (greenhouse or polytunnel) recommended.
  • Thick skinned.
  • Self fertile.
  • Fruits contain seeds.
