Kumquat Tree

Also spelt cumquat or known as Chinese oranges, but either way produces a small edible, oval shaped, orange coloured fruit in small groups on the plant.

Originated from South Asia and was first written about in China in the 12th Century, they were first thought to be introduced to Europe in 1846 by Robert Fortune.

The skin of these fruits is sweet, unlike other citrus fruits, with the flesh being slightly more tart, it is usually recommended that you eat the complete fruit for the best flavour (skin and flesh in one bite).

• Self Fertile.
• Evergreen.
• Slow growing.
• Very heavy cropping.
• Potentially can reach approximately 15 feet (4.5 metres) tall.
• Can be grown in water logged locations.
• Sometimes grows thorns!
• Has dark, glossy green leaves.
• White flowers (a little like citrus flowers)
• Can produce hundreds or thousands of fruits on a fully grown tree.
• Can take occasional frosts but really do prefer a warmer, frost free location.

• Can be used to make Marmalade and jelly.
• Can be used in cocktails (a bit like olives!)
