Description

A symbol of happiness for the Greeks and Romans.

Sweet, spicy, citrus-flavoured herb with grey-green foliage.

A member of the mint family.

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

  • Tender perennial.
  • Grows up to 2 feet (60 cm) tall.
  • Likes a warm sunny position (it doesn't like the cold!)
  • Like free-draining soil.
  • Suitable for container growing.
  • Sow under glass in trays, or late spring directly outside (please note germination can be slow).
  • Plant seedlings out 6" (15 cm) apart (please note they can be slow to grow).
  • Flowers July - September with small pale pink flowers.
  • If you cut plants to 1" (2.5 cm) in autumn they can be brought indoors.
  • Culinary Uses.
  • Good for use in stews, soup, on pizza, with pasta, eggs and cheese!
  • Can be infused for tea.
  • Can be chopped into salad.
  • Good complement for fish.
  • Flowers are edible.
