Mentha requienii

One of the smallest members of the Mint family, with bright green leaves and tiny mauve flowers.

  • Low-growing, used in landscaping and for bedding.
  • Thrives in shady areas.
  • Leaves give off a strong aroma of peppermint when crushed.
  • Chop finely into salads, or make mint tea from it.

Supplied as a pot-grown plant grown in a 7cm pot.

Also known as Rock Mint, Corsican Mint is native to Corsica, Sardinia and Italy.

One of the smallest members of the Mint family, it is much used for landscaping and bedding.

Recognised to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

  • Hardy semi-evergreen perennial, with small oval leaves.
  • Reaches a height of 1.5-4" (3-10 cm).
  • Ground cover, will spread indefinitely.
  • Suitable for most soils, including heavy clay.
  • Likes full sun or semi-shade.
  • Prefers moist but not wet soil. Will rot if kept wet.

Culinary Uses

  • Used as a flavouring for the creme de menthe liqueur.
  • Use finely chopped as a flavouring in salads.
  • Use to make mint tea.

Medicinal Uses

  • Can be used for headaches.
  • Toxic if taken in large doses.
  • Can be used as an antiseptic, carminative or febrifuge.

Other uses

  • Disliked by rats and mice.
  • Can be used in companion plants with brassicas, to repel insect pests.
