Description

This is the gardener's version of those supermarket bags of mixed salad leaves - or mixed stir fry leaves. In reality we've now added more than 13 varieties of Oriental Vegetables so those with a fear of the number 13 no longer need to be worried. Varieties included are as diverse as Pak Chois, Mizunas, Mibunas, Choy Sums and Kai-Lan Broccoli, to name but a few.

Grown either in the open ground or containers you can harvest as a cut-and-come-again baby leaf crop or leave to grow to more mature proportions for use in stir fries.

This mixture is perfect for either growing in the vegetable garden or in containers from April-September. Can also be grown under protection through the winter months to produce a useful crop of fresh salad leaves or stir-fry mixture.

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects if allowed to 'go over' and flower (so if you have room leave any plants in that have gone too far rather than pulling them out straight away).

  • Sow thinly April-September in drills ¾" (2 cm) deep in rows 12" (30 cm) apart - or thinly in containers.
  • For use as a cut-and-come-again leaf crop thin to 4" (10 cm) apart.
  • For eating 'whole' thin to 12" (30 cm) - but remember to eat the thinnings!
  • For overwintering crops sow under protection, in the same manner, from August-mid October.
