Description

As a family we absolutely love this variety of squash! At first glance it is a pretty boring variety which produces 'unassuming' rugby ball-shaped fruits that mature to a pale yellow/orange colour.

The real surprise comes when you cook it! Cut in half and bake in the oven (with about an 1" (2.5 cm) of water in the baking tray) until the flesh is soft. Once soft, 'comb' the flesh out of the skin with a fork to produce spaghetti-like strands that can be used exactly as you would conventional pasta spaghetti. Served with a rich tomato sauce and a grating of cheese this is just sheer bliss.

The habit of the plant is to trail just as a pumpkin does, and each plant should produce around six fruits weighing around 3 lbs (1.5 Kg).

We've found this to be a firm favourite with children - and for those involved in school or children's gardening clubs this is the perfect answer to the often voiced request to grow pasta!
