Description

In our opinion this is the best flavoured and best storing variety of Winter squash of them all.

We've also found it to be extremely reliable and produce a crop in even the harder growing seasons - we found 2011 not to be an easy year due to the cold night temperatures, yet Crown Prince still managed a good crop of reasonably sized fruits.

The rich golden flesh is gorgeously sweet and has an excellent texture making it perfect for grilling, roasting, or sautéing. For 'the ultimate' chop into 1" (4 cm) squares drizzle with olive oil and slow roast for a couple of hours before incorporating into a risotto - truly wonderful.

Although bred in Australia, this is a relative of the Kabocha squash (otherwise known as the Japanese Pumpkin); fruits can vary in size from 3-8lbs (1-2 - 4 Kg).

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
