Description

Possibly the cheapest way to establish your own strawberry bed is to grow your plants from seed –something so often forgotten, which is strange considering strawberries are the only fruit to bear their seeds on the outside!

This excellent variety produces excellent quality 'normal-sized' fruits in profusion on compact plants. Ideal for hanging baskets or open ground alike–

It is not unknown for plants to fruit in their first year; spring and summer sowings may result in autumn fruiting. Autumn sowings should fruit in spring and early summer the following year.

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

  • Self-fertile.
  • Sow late February onwards in seed trays or pots and only just cover to hide the seed –preferably using a fine sieve.
  • Keep moist and in semi-shade.
  • Ideal germination temperature 65F (18C).
  • Transplant into small pots when large enough to handle and grow on before planting out 12" (30 cm) apart in rows 30" (75 cm) apart.
