Sweetcorn Plants

Let us take the hassle out of germinating Sweetcorn with our chunky compost block-grown Sweetcorn plants that can be planted straight out (if the weather is warm enough) or potted up and grown on under protection.

Here we list the best of the varieties - for sweetness and for coping with cooler temperatures (great for more northern gardeners). Once established, sweetcorn can be grown on and planted in 'square blocks' to encourage wind pollination. More...

Sweetcorn has earned a reputation for being one of the trickier plants to grow from seed - but this is only the case here in the UK because our springs can be unpredictable at best, and sweetcorn prefers a solidly warm start to set the seed's germination wheels in motion.

But when it comes to our sweetcorn plants, germination needn't be an issue for our customers. We are able to directly supply a variety of compost block-grown sweetcorn plants from our nursery in Kent, providing strong, viable specimens that are easy to grow on and harvest!

As well as a sunny position and fertile, well-draining soil, sweetcorn plants should be grown in square blocks, with standard sweetcorn varieties requiring around 40 cm between plants, and smaller babycorn varieties needing a space-saving 15 cm between plants. This is strongly recommended as sweetcorn is fertilised through wind pollination. Once in situ, keep sweetcorn plants well weeded, and water well - especially in dry weather and after the plants' flowers appear.
