Description

Trailblazer makes a sensational true Rose Hedge that thrives in any soils where weeds or grass grow well.

Plant 12" (30 cm) apart to ensure maximum density, and provide complete privacy and security thanks to the prickles that are hidden by the lovely green leaves and amazingly vibrant pink flowers.

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

  • Rich lush green foliage.
  • Richly perfumed large single and semi-double crimson cerise flowers with golden centres.
  • Gorgeous scarlet red hips the size of tomatoes in autumn - relished by game birds
  • Does not suffer from blackspot or mildew.
  • Needs no support.
  • The rootstock produces numerous suckers which come true and ensure a really thick dense hedge.
  • Plant 12-18" (30-45 cm) apart.
  • Ultimate height 7 feet (2.1 metres). Can be trimmed to any height above 3 feet (90 cm).
  • Average annual growth rate 2 feet (60 cm).
  • Ultimate width 4 feet (1.2 metres). Can be trimmed to any width over 2 feet (60 cm).
  • Grows well in most soil types (including chalky and clay) except those prone to lying very wet.
  • Suitable for most aspects from full sun to partial shade. Does not perform well in dense shade.
  • Suitable for coastal areas.
  • Performs well in exposed/windy positions.
  • Plant autumn/winter/early spring.

Cultivation Guidance

Planting

  • Ideally plant in an open situation in ordinary garden soil.
  • Trailblazer will grow anywhere grass or weeds grow!
  • If planting near a fence or wall ensure you plant at least 15" (38 cm) away.
  • No support or attention apart from watering if it is dry is required in the first year from planting.
  • No bonemeal or fertiliser is required when planting.
  • Plant 12" (30 cm) apart and you will have a thick impenetrable hedgerow in approximately two years.
  • No spraying for black spot or common rose diseases is required.

After Care

  • Pruning/trimming should be done once a year if necessary in late autumn with shears. Wear gloves as the thorns can be painful.
