A Welcome Cold Snap - Or Not?
Despite the early promises, November didn't turn out quite the month we expected - with heavy rains and winds across the country beating everyone, including us gardeners, into submission. And then the weather dried and cooled - a welcome cold snap!
Whilst we managed the monthly video over the weekend, its taken a few days to get the words done - and now we have an inch or so of snow on the ground (but we hope it wont last) - a not so welcome cold snap!
And so with Christmas around the corner we're nearly at the end of another year. But there is still much to do in the garden both before, during and after Christmas...
- Now is the perfect time for planting bare root tree and soft fruits - and hedging. Plantings undertaken now will settle in faster than plantings later in the Spring and so will save effort in the long run.
- Then on Christmas Day afternoon its time to sow the onions!
- And then after Christmas its time to plan ahead for the Spring.
And that brings us nicely round to pointing out what a fabulous gift seeds and plants make.
