Curly Mint is a variety of spearmint with thick upright stalks and unusual tightly clustered crinkled leaves that look a little like parsley.  Vigorous and highly aromatic, it can be used as a garnish, or dried and used in pot pourri, but this variety is particularly good for swizzel sticks in your mojitos. It can also be used in iced tea or dried to make herbal teas.

Very good for you as it's high in Vitamin B, C, B-complex, Iron and magnesium.

As with all mint plants, we recommend growing this in pots to restrict it spreading.

Highly valued for many centuries, Mint is mentioned in all early medieval lists of plants. Geoffrey Chaucer refers to 'a little path of mintes full and fenill greene'. He might almost have been talking about Curly Mint, an attractive addition to the herb garden.

Recommended by the RHS to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.

  • Hardy Perennial.
  • Full / partial sun position.
  • Suits most soil types.
  • Reaches 3½ feet (100 cm) high.
  • Unusual ruffled leaves.
  • Can be invasive so best grown in containers.
  • Recognised to be an excellent attractant and nectar source for bees and other beneficial insects.
  • Culinary Uses
  • Can be infused to make teas.
  • It's long stems can make it a great addition as a swizzel stick for mojitos!
  • Great accompaniment to lamb, pea and potato dishes.
  • Crystallize leaves for decoration.
  • Can be dried or frozen (great in ice cubes).
  • Often used in Middle Eastern cuisine.
  • Used in Mexican Albondigas (meatball) soup.
  • Medicinal Uses
  • The leaves can be used to treat chapped hands.
  • The leaf oil can be used to ease heavy colds.
  • Macerate leaves in oil then use to massage affected areas for migraines, facial neuralgia, rheumatic and muscular aches. Particularly useful in winter!
  • As tea can be used to aid headaches, indigestion and heartburn.
  • Other Uses
  • Grow near roses to deter aphids.
  • Scattered leaves may deter mice.
  • Can be used in pot pourri.
